What you’ll do

As a Data Engineer will design, implement, and maintain data pipelines in the Google Cloud Platform. The role is accountable to work closely with Product Owner to understand business needs and objectives as well as with BI Engineers to ensure the smooth data feed from various sources to GCP and afterward to internal clients.

More specifically you will:

  • Work closely with Product Owner, Solution Architect and Engineers to develop new flows and migrate the existing on premises infrastructure to GCP.
  • Review appropriate architecture and other technical solutions and make recommendations to Business.
  • Review requirements, specifications, business processes and recommendation documents with clear project deliverables and timelines to ensure timely completion of deliverables.
  • Promote cooperation and commitment within the team to achieve goals and deliverables.
  • Support & mentor other Big Data Engineers, by highly participating in code reviews and giving valuable feedback.
  • Own the creation & implementation of the deployment kit and respective documentation.
  • Hold a crucial role in strengthening knowledge sharing in the VF Greece Big Data community.

Who you are

  • At least 2-3 years of experience in a similar position, designing and developing infrastructure for large/medium scale migration efforts to GCP or other cloud platforms (i.e. Azure, AWS).
  • Hands on experience in migrating on-premises pipelines to Google Cloud Platform (GCP) using tools such as BigQuery, Dataform, Cloud Composer (Apache Airflow), Google Cloud Storage, Cloud Functions.
  • Strong experience with large-scale production databases and SQL
  • Knowledge in using OLAP technologies and BI Analytics, along with an understanding of different data warehousing and dimensional modelling concepts.
  • Experience with ETL development (extractions, data load, aggregation, transformation) using tools like Dataform, dbt etc.
  • Common SDLC, including SCM, build tools, unit, integration, functional and performance testing from automation perspective, TDD/BDD, CI and continuous delivery, under agile practices, and distributed teams.
  • Profound knowledge of Data Infrastructure and Database Systems (RDBMS/NoSQL).
  • Experience in enterprise transformation projects will be highly appreciated.
  • Professional Certifications in GCP or minimum 2 years of cloud experience will be an advantage.
  • Knowledge of PySpark, Python, Java and/or Scala would be considered as a plus
  • Familiarity with using business intelligence tools such as Power BI, Tableau, Looker would be considered as a plus
  • Experience with IaaC (e.g. Terraform) would be considered as a plus
  • Experience working with Agile methodologies / in Agile teams is strongly preferred.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, in both Greek & English.
