Kahuna Workforce Solutions is seeking a mid-career hire as Database Administrator focused on design, implementations and support of our proprietary software’s databases. Kahuna, bridges the gap between core human resources processes and operational development to satisfy the requirements for competency assurance and competency development. 

As a Kahuna Database Administrator, you’ll help design, implement, monitor and support organization's product storage needs. The ideal candidate is an accountable team player who is eager to make an impact.

What You’ll be Doing:

  • Manage and optimize Microsoft SQL Server 2019 databases running on Linux across multiple Azure data center regions to support SDLC environments for a multi-tenant SaaS product.
  • Implement and maintain a scalable database infrastructure, managing hundreds of databases across development, staging, and production environments.
  • Analyze and troubleshoot SQL Server performance issues, using monitoring tools like Dynatrace, and apply performance optimization techniques to improve database speed and efficiency.
  • Oversee schema changes and prevent schema drift across hundreds of customer databases, ensuring consistency and accuracy in automated deployments.
  • Design and execute an effective index management and sql job strategy, handling index fragmentation, maintenance, and optimization at scale.
  • Conduct in-depth T-SQL analysis and query tuning to optimize the performance of critical database queries, ensuring optimal database behavior.
  • Lead capacity planning efforts to assess the need for additional servers, and proactively scale the database infrastructure to support growth in customer demand.
  • Collaborate with engineering and DevOps teams to plan and schedule database jobs (e.g., backups, indexing, statistics updates, and caching) to ensure smooth operation with minimal downtime.
  • Develop best practices and processes for managing SQL Server jobs (reporting, caching, backups, index updates) and document approaches to ensure consistency across environments.
  • Provide guidance and recommendations on SQL Server maintenance on Linux, including upgrades, backups, and disaster recovery planning.
  • Support multi-region failover strategies and high availability in an Azure environment.

What You’ll Need for This Role:

  • Expertise in Microsoft SQL Server 2019 on Linux: Advanced knowledge of administering SQL Server databases on Linux, including managing high-performance and high-availability environments.
  • Experience with Multi-Tenant SaaS Products: Proven ability to manage databases at scale across multiple regions and environments, particularly in a multi-tenant architecture.
  • Performance Tuning & Optimization Skills: Deep experience analyzing and resolving SQL performance issues, optimizing T-SQL queries, and using tools like Dynatrace for SQL Server monitoring.
  • Schema Management & Drift Control: Strong understanding of managing schema changes across hundreds of databases, ensuring consistency and preventing schema drift.
  • Index Management Expertise: Experience designing and managing large-scale index maintenance and optimization, ensuring databases remain performant and efficient.
  • Capacity Planning Skills: Ability to forecast infrastructure needs and lead capacity planning efforts, including assessing future growth and scaling database infrastructure accordingly.
  • Advanced T-SQL Proficiency: Mastery in writing, tuning, and optimizing complex T-SQL queries for high-performance database operations.
  • Familiarity with Azure Infrastructure: Experience deploying and managing SQL Server databases in Azure regions, including Azure virtual machines and disk storage options.
  • Experience with SDLC Database Management: Ability to manage databases across multiple development, staging, and production environments, ensuring database integrity at all stages of the software lifecycle.
