We are looking for an experienced Engineering Leader (Backend) to join our dynamic team in Bangalore. In this role, you will lead and manage a team of backend Individual Contributors (ICs), driving technical excellence, optimizing SaaS spend, and fostering a culture of innovation. You will play a key role in scaling the backend engineering function while ensuring that all initiatives align with the company’s strategic objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Development
- Build and Scale the Backend Engineering Team
- Recruit, onboard, and mentor backend engineers.
- Foster a culture of accountability, continuous learning, and professional growth.

Managing & Optimizing Spend
- SaaS Spend Management
- Oversee and optimize spend on SaaS platforms and services such as OpenAI, Anthropic, AWS, and Snowflake.
- Evaluate and implement cost-effective solutions without compromising quality.

- Manage relationships with SaaS vendors.
- Negotiate contracts and ensure alignment with business needs and budgets.

- Cost Optimization Strategies
- Identify opportunities to reduce costs through consolidation or alternative solutions.
- Implement monitoring and reporting mechanisms to track SaaS usage and expenses.

Collaboration & Communication

About You
Experience:
- 8+ years in software engineering roles, with at least 3 years in leadership positions.
- Proven experience in building and scaling backend engineering teams, ideally in a startup environment.
- Experience with early-stage startups (Seed/Series A/B) or previous founder/co-founder experience is highly desirable.
Technical Expertise:
- Strong background in backend development and system architecture.
- Hands-on experience with modern backend technologies and frameworks.
Leadership Skills:
- Ability to lead, mentor, and inspire backend engineers.
- Experience managing backend ICs and driving technical excellence.
SaaS Spend Optimization:
- Experience in managing and optimizing SaaS platform expenses.
- Ability to evaluate and implement cost-effective solutions.

- Ability to align backend technical initiatives with business goals.
- Proficient in strategic planning and execution.
