Position Overview

Cornerstone Learning Community is seeking a passionate and dedicated 6th Grade Math Lead Teacher to join our middle school team. This educator will serve as a leader in delivering inquiry-based, engaging math instruction aligned with the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP). The ideal candidate will cultivate a dynamic classroom culture where students confidently explore mathematical concepts, strengthen problem-solving skills, and develop a lifelong appreciation for mathematics.

Key Responsibilities 

The following is a subset from the internal job description and it is not inclusive of all the The Middle School Math Lead Teacher will oversee and facilitate a range of projects and initiatives, including but not limited to:

  • Plan and deliver engaging, inquiry-based math lessons aligned with the IB MYP curriculum.
  • Foster critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical reasoning in students.
  • Encourage a growth mindset and develop student confidence in mathematical problem-solving.
  • Utilize project-based learning, real-world applications, and hands-on activities to deepen understanding.
  • Develop and implement formative and summative assessments to measure progress and guide instruction.
  • Differentiate instruction to support various learning styles and academic needs.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to align curriculum and integrate cross-disciplinary connections.
  • Participate in school-wide activities, professional development, and ongoing MYP training.

  • Maintain a respectful, well-managed, and inclusive classroom that supports learning and personal growth.
  • Help coordinate math-related clubs, field trips, and extracurricular opportunities that enrich student learning.
  • Encourage a growth mindset and confidence in mathematical problem-solving.
  • Maintain a well-managed, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment that supports student learning and personal growth.
  • Assist in organizing and facilitating math-related clubs, field trips, school events, and extracurricular activities to enrich student learning.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Education, or a related field.
  • Minimum of three years of experience teaching middle school math.
  • Valid teaching certification (MYP certification preferred but not required).
  • Experience with or interest in the IB MYP framework.
  • Strong ability to facilitate inquiry-based learning and student-centered instruction.
  • Proficiency with technology tools that enhance math instruction.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to design and deliver assessments that promote deep understanding and reflection.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must have the ability to lift up to 40 lbs.
  • Repetitive bending, stretching, walking and stooping.
  • Have mobility required to ensure the safety of children.
  • Work with children on the floor.
  • Work outdoors in a variety of weather.
  • Have visual and hearing capabilities that allow constant supervision of children.
