A privately-owned company located near Burlington, Vermont, is seeking a Senior Accountant to join this successful and established organization. You will have an opportunity to build on and improve the existing accounting systems and processes, propose and implement best practices, and work across multiple company's divisions.

Job Summary
The Senior Accountant will manage day-to-day accounting operations to ensure accurate financial reporting for Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functions. Reporting to the CFO, this individual will play a key role in preparing and assisting with monthly financial statements while ensuring compliance with company-wide accounting policies and procedures.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Reconcile general ledger accounts and create journal entries.
  • Review journal entries of junior accountants for accuracy.
  • Perform variance analyses and prepare account reconciliations.
  • Prepare and/or assist with the preparation of monthly financial statements.
  • Ensure compliance with all tax reporting requirements (e.g., 1099 issuance, sales taxes).
  • Assist in coordinating annual financial audits and tax return preparation.
  • Maintain and update a documented system of accounting policies and procedures.
  • Oversee daily accounting operations to ensure accurate financial reporting for Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable.
  • Establish and document internal controls and guidelines for accounting transactions.
  • Identify and recommend improvements to accounting processes and procedures to enhance accuracy and efficiency.
  • Coordinate more complex accounting projects and initiatives with other accounting, finance teams, or departments.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Desired Skills, Education, and Experience

  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of accounting experience (public accounting experience preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), state and federal regulations.
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to research and resolve accounting discrepancies.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Self-motivated with a high degree of accountability, confidentiality, and urgency.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and other Microsoft Office programs.
  • Experience with ERP programs (Vista) and AppFolio is highly desirable.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively.
